Will Peter catch the wolf? Discover Prokofiev’s classic orchestral tale, together with Ravel’s magical Mother Goose Suite.

The music will be brought to life by James Mayhew and Toto Martinez who will tell the enchanting stories and illustrate them live on stage. Featuring the Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Hull, this concert is the perfect introduction to the sounds of the orchestra for children! The paintings created during the performance will be raffled for charity. James Mayhew will be signing his new book of Peter And The Wolf after the performance.

This whale-inspired concert opens with Hovhaness’ awe-inspiring work for recorded whale-song and orchestra.

This is followed by the premiere of Tahlequah,a new piece for piano and orchestra by local composer Geoff Page, inspired by the story of an orca that carried her dead calf for seventeen days. Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra welcome brilliant young pianist Markus Sadler in his Saffron Hall debut. They conclude with Sinfonia Antartica which Vaughan Williams developed from his 1948 score to the film Scott of the Antarctic. Snow, ice and penguins all feature in this epic piece.
