Saffron Walden Children’s Orchestra

Saffron Walden Children's Orchestra (SWCO) is a training orchestra for young musicians living in and around Uttlesford. We welcome all young orchestral instrumentalists who are playing to a standard of grade 1 to 5 and who want to have fun learning how to play in an orchestra.

Our courses help children to develop as musicians and to enjoy learning how to play with others in a large ensemble. We usually play some classical as well as light repertoire. Children also work together with section coaches, and then on the final day all join together to perform as an orchestra. Our gallery has some recent images of the children's orchestra.

Our 9th SWCO course will be taking place this summer during 24-27 July 2018 at the Saffron Walden County High School, 9.30-3.30pm every day, finishing with a concert on the last day in the Saffron Hall. There will be 4 days of orchestral playing, playing in smaller ensemble groups led by specialist tutors, African drumming and singing workshops. Children, aged 7 and above, who play an orchestral instrument and are of grade 1 minimum up to grade 5 are very welcome to enrol. Places are limited so early booking recommended. If you would like to book a place, please fill out a copy of our Summer 2018 application form and send this to our SWCO administrator.

We welcome any feedback on the courses we run.
